Install from Claude

Use this instead of the companion download and its Connect files, not as well. You still need the mod in Dungeondraft.

  • Claude desktop app: from the same release, download battlemap-mcp-<version>.mcpb and open it. Claude shows it under Settings → Extensions; approve the install. The extension gives Claude the map tools; it does not include the map-making skills.
  • Claude Code: run /plugin marketplace add thekannen/battlemap-mcp, then /plugin install battlemap-mcp@battlemap-mcp, and restart Claude Code. The plugin brings the map tools and the map-making skills.

The mod: install it as in step 2, or ask your assistant to install the Dungeondraft bridge. It shows you what it will change and asks first, and if you already have a bridge it keeps a backup of the old one. Then fully quit and reopen Dungeondraft, open a map, and ask the prompt in step 4.

Switching from a Connect install? Remove the old connection first, or every tool appears twice: in Claude Code, run claude mcp remove --scope user battlemap.

Updating: your assistant tells you when a new version is out. Update the plugin with /plugin, or download and open the new .mcpb, then ask your assistant to install the bridge again and restart Dungeondraft.
