Legal and attribution

battlemap-mcp is a local automation layer for your own Dungeondraft map-making session. It does not generate original assets or art for you; it just drives what you already own in Dungeondraft.

Please support the people behind the work:

  1. Buy and support Dungeondraft (required to use battlemap-mcp as intended).
  2. Support artists and the community directly by purchasing asset packs you use, commissioning map pieces, and helping creators thrive.

battlemap-mcp can only drive features in your local Dungeondraft installation. It is meant to support creators, especially when you’re getting started, short on time, or want an assistant for tedious setup tasks. It can help you move faster, but it can never replace human creativity, taste, and mapmaking judgment.

battlemap-mcp is an independent, unofficial project. It is not sponsored, operated, or endorsed by Megasploot or Tailwind Games, LLC.

It is a compatibility tool for an existing Dungeondraft installation. It does not include or redistribute Dungeondraft software, maps, or art assets.

Dungeondraft is a product of Megasploot, a project of Tailwind Games, LLC. The name “Dungeondraft” is used here only to identify the software battlemap-mcp is compatible with; it does not imply any affiliation or endorsement. All other product names belong to their respective owners.

battlemap-mcp builds on brann-dev/dungeondraft-mcp, also MIT licensed. The original attribution is preserved in battlemap-mcp’s LICENSE.

  • battlemap-mcp’s source code is licensed under the MIT License; see LICENSE.
  • Third-party asset packs, map files, textures, and other content used inside Dungeondraft remain subject to their own terms and licenses.
  • battlemap-mcp does not grant any rights to official Dungeondraft assets, map files, or paid content beyond what your Dungeondraft installation already provides.
  • Users are responsible for licensing compliance when they import, distribute, or sell content created with any assets.
  • To search your installed asset packs, the companion reads each pack’s list of files, pack.json and tags on your computer. It never copies or redistributes pack content, and it does not search or preview a pack whose pack.json sets allow_3rd_party_mapping_software_to_read to false.
  • Release downloads include the license notices of the third-party libraries bundled in the companion.

casancam/Dungeondraft-MCP is a separate project by another author. It edits Dungeondraft map files while Dungeondraft is closed, makes variants of a map such as a night version, and turns Universal VTT (.dd2vtt) exports into Foundry VTT scenes. Use it for offline and batch work, and battlemap-mcp to build inside a running Dungeondraft. Its research into the asset pack format also helped battlemap-mcp search inside your packs.
